    The Tree Empty The Tree

Post by Guest Thu 22 Jul 2010, 09:27

Theresa skipped along the grass in the grounds as she looked over the lake. She had finaly done her Charms homework and was going to enjoy the rest of her time. She grinned when she saw a tall tree, she had done it at last, found the biggest tree along the lake yet. Her palms itched, she just had to climb it. She quickly put her bag down by the tree and started to climb, wondering how high up she could get. Imagining the great view she would have.

Shelby was relaxing in the shade of a tree nearby. From her spot in the low branches, she watched Theresa run past her toward an even bigger tree. She happily climbed out of her spot and grabbed her bag. "Resa, what are you doing?" Shelby ran after her friend and began to climb the tree behind her.

Theresa climbed to the middle branches when she heard Shelby. She looked down and saw her friend climbing the tree too. "I want to see how high I can go to relax, there must be a briliant view up here" she said as she gestured to the branches that were above her.

"I'm coming with you then!" She followed Theresa and couldn't help but admit that there was sure to be an amazing view from the top of the tree, even if there was a good chance that this was one of the most dangerous things she'd ever done in her life.

Theresa smiled as she continued to climb the tree, this was going to be great. Once she was near the top, she climbed onto one of the branches and sat down, making room for Shelby. Her smile grew as she looked around, she could see a lot from up here.

Shelby sat in the spot that Theresa had left for her. "Wow," she said, her mouth gaping open. From up here you could see nearly everything on the Hogwarts lawn. She could even see the giant squid further away in the lake, letting his tentacles dart in and out of the water. "This is pretty cool," she said.

"Yeah, we could find out anything from up here" Theresa said as she looked around her. "Huh, I see what you guys were talking about now, the squid looks nothing like that very big, dark thing we saw in the lake the other day" she said thoughtfully as she watched the lake.

Shelby nodded her head, "Yeah, I wonder what we saw. I mean, it clearly wasn't the squid and it wasn't a merperson or anything like that. I think if we asked a Professor we might get in trouble."

"Have you heard back from Professor Spelling yet?" she asked, giggling when she remembered that Resa had gone to ask the Head of Hufflepuff the same questions that she had already asked Professor Williams.

Theresa shook her head "no, there is a whole line of students needing to ask her stuff, I think she is avoiding us all" she joked. "It's strange to think that, that thing could have been dangerous" she said thoughtfully as she began to swing her legs. She wondered what would have happened if they got closer to it.

"Yeah," Shelby agreed. "It's a little scary to think that there might actually be something really dangerous in there. Whatever it was though, I don't think that it would come anywhere near the surface, so I think it's still safe for us to swim around up here. To be honest, as long as it doesn't bother us, I don't even really care if I ever find out what it is," she said.

Theresa nodded in agreement "true, it's one of those things that are better just staying a mystery, like the Room of Requirements is" she said. She looked behind them and saw some other first years walking into the castle, she wondered if they could be seen up here. "So how is Indiana and Elise?" she asked, wondering how her friend was with the boy and the car.

"Not sure," Shelby replied. "I haven't seen Indiana or Elise since yesterday. But I did promise Elise that I would bring some people to come meet her, so just let me know if and when you want to go meet her. I think she might be sticking close to the Hogwarts side of the Forest for when me or Indiana go back to see her."

"Hey guys," Hilary said, as she approached where her friends were sitting. She assumed, by now, that she didn't really have to ask whether or not she could join them. They had been hanging around enough that she could just drop in. They would say something if they didn't want her there.

Theresa smiled "well it would be great to see her" she said. She looked up and her smile grew "hi Hilary, did you find what you were looking for on the unicorns?" she asked when she saw her friend. Remembering being in the library and Hilary had all those books about unicorns and the uses of it's hair.

"Yep," she said, taking a seat on the grass nearby and dropping her bag next to her. "I have about two pages worth of stuff they can do. Now I just have to decide if I actually want to use them for something."

"So, what's new? Did I miss anything interesting?"

Theresa thought for a moment "no nothing knew, we only just got here so we havent said anything interesting yet, just that we dont think that the thing in the lake was really a squid at all but other then that... nothing" she said thoughtfully."Oh that reminds me, have either of you talken to Rain?" she asked suspisiously.

"If it's not a squid, what would it be?" Hilary asked. "I know there's merpeople down there, but that's not what we saw."

She paused, thinking if she had ever spoken to the boy. "I haven't," she said. "I actually don't think I've ever done more than just see him, to be honest."

"Hey Hilary," Shelby smiled at her fellow Ravenclaw as she approached. "We're not sure but we don't want to ask a teacher because we're afraid we might get into trouble."

Shelby grinned, a little surprised that her friend was the one bringing up boys for once. "No, why? Have you talked to him yet? Did he find something out and he's avoiding you?" she asked with enthusiasm and interest.

Hilary frowned. "Why would you get in trouble? It's just a question..." Then something dawned on her. "Oh, you mean because we saw it while we were swimming in the lake?"

Hilary waited to hear what Theresa was going to say. It was funny to think only a few days ago, they had been discussing cooties and how icky boys were, and now they spent half of their time talking about them.

Theresa stuck her tongoue out at Shelby before turning to Hilary. "Yeah, it could just be a simple question but we could get detentions for swiming in the lake" she said. "I havent talked to him really, I guess I am just a little paranoid that I told you I liked rain and then on the same day, he went to the kitchens and talked to me for the first time, it was only a little pass and a few words but I am just very paranoid that he might have overheard or someone did and told him because he hadn't even noticed me before then" she explained.

Hilary thought for a minute. "There might be a way of asking that doesn't involved mentioning that we were swimming in the lake," she mused. "I mean, we do spend a lot of time down here; we could have seen something while sitting on the shore that looked suspicious." She shrugged. "I can ask someone, if you like. I don't care if I get in trouble."

She turned to Theresa. "Or maybe he likes you too!"

Theresa shook her head "wouldn't be worth the risk really, I don't want either of us getting a detention because of the little trip into the lake, we have gotten away with it and I don't want to ruin that" she said. She thought about what Hilary said "no he wont, I havent even talked to him before that short moment, maybe it was just a coincidence or he wanted to laugh at me" she said, shrugging.

"We could always just ask what else might be in the lake," she said, too curious to let it go. "I mean, it's a pretty normal question, considering you guys have been asking about cooties." She could help but laugh at the thought.

She shook her head. "If he wanted to laugh at you, he would have done it there," she said. "He probably wanted to talk to you."

Theresa snorted "ye, our Professors would think that we were becoming normal after the questions Shelby asked, sounds fun, they will probably be even more confused, trying to put the questions together and see what was going through all our heads" she said, laughing at the image of the Professors wondering why they wanted to know about squids, anything in the lake and cooties. Theresa shrugged at Hilary's comment about Rain "I am not sure, it wasnt really talking, just a passing and noticing each other, probably trying to figure out if I was as big of a loony as I sound" she said.

Hilary laughed. She now wanted to start asking the professors a bunch of random questions, just to see if they would get suspicious of them. But it may not be worth it, especially considering her tendency to wander off where she wasn't supposed to be and go swimming in the lake.

"But he did notice you," she pointed out. "I was there when he ran into us outside the kitchens after we were trying to figure out the room of requirement stuff. And he didn't say anything to me."
