Camping By The Lake Empty Camping By The Lake

Hilary dragged her bag and the tent she had gotten from the Room of Requirement down to the lake. This would be the perfect place to set up camp. She was close enough to the lake that she could go for a swim if she wanted, but far enough from the forest where she didn't have to be worried about being eaten by coyotes. And she was pretty sure no one would be too mad if she decided to have a fire.

Dropping her bag to the ground, she started pulling the tent pieces out of the bag. Now, she just had to figure out how it all went together.

Theresa skipped out of the castle and to the lake. She had just gotten an owl from Hilary a moment ago. She was very excited to camp out with her friend. Her father use to think camping was too dangerous so this would be the first time for her. She smiled when she saw Hilary and jumped onto the grass next to her to unfold her sleeping bag that she got from the Room of Requirements. "Hey Hilary!" she said cheerfully.

"Hey!" Hilary said, glad that someone else was going to come camping with her. Sleeping outside was always more fun when you were with other people.

She glanced down at the poles at her feet, then over to her friend. "Any chance you know how to set this thing up?" she asked, holding up what she thought was the front of the tent.

Theresa blushed slightly as she rooted through her bag and took out a muggle book. "It is in the same book as the instructions to bungee jumping, I thought we might need it" she said, embarrised that she still had the book after their horrid detention. She put her bag down and flipped through the book. "It should be after 'fishing, the muggle way' she said as she looked through the pages.

Hilary giggled at the thought of the actions that cost them a morning's worth of dragon dung. The detention itself hadn't been fun, but seeing her friends so careless and daring definitely had been.

She glanced over Resa's shoulder as the other girl flipped through the book. "There it is!" she said, when she caught sight of a detailed picture of putting up a tent.

Shelby rolled her eyes and smiled when she saw her friends trying to put up a tent. She walked over to them and, once she was close enough that they could hear her, she asked, "Are you two really going to sleep out here?" She couldn't understand why anyone would want to sleep outside when they had a gigantic castle, with beds in it, just for them.

Hilary glanced up when she heard someone approaching, and smiled when she realized that it was Shelby.

"Yep," she said, sticking one of the poles into a hole in the tent, even though she wasn't sure that it was actually supposed to go there. "You can too if you want. We have lots of food, and I got air mattresses from the Room."

Theresa smiled when she saw the page "oh yeah, briliant" she said as she skimmed through it. She turned around when she heard Shelby and grinned "why yes Shelby, are you joining us on this fine night?" she asked in a posh voice. She looked back at the tent and put the book down before she began to help Hilary.

Hilary glanced down at the material and poles in her hands. A tent looked like it should be simple to put together. So why did none of the instructions make sense?

"I don't think that goes there," she said, half to herself, pulling the pole back out of the hole in the material. She glanced down at the picture in the book, and found the proper place for the pole in her hand.

Theresa looked at the book then back at the tent as she attached two poles together. "Wow, this is harder then setting up for bungee jumping, that's kind of funny, wouldnt you think that this would be easier" she mused as she lifted a corner of the tent. She looked back at the book and wondered how muggles made it look so easy.

Shelby couldn't help but laugh as she watched Theresa and Hilary try to put up the tent. It was like a comedy of errors. She stood to the side to watch them work, finally realizing that they'd asked her a question. "No, I will be sleeping in my bed. In the castle. With the rest of the sane people who attend this school," she said, still laughing.

Hilary couldn't help but laugh. "You mean the part where the bungee cable has to save your life, where a tent just keeps you out of the weather?" she asked, sliding a pole into one of the pockets. She was pretty sure that was right. It looked right.

"You're no fun," she said, sticking her tongue out a Shelby. "What happened to the adventurous spirit you had the night you were bungee jumping? This is way safer."

"I should have just asked the room for a tent that was already set up," she said, after a couple of minute of quiet work. "Dragging a tent down all those stairs has to be easier than this."

Theresa snorted "Sane people are so boooooring though Shelby" she said. She looked back down at the book and scowled "it must be wrong or something" she said. She paused for a moment before laughing "you make the whole bungee jumping idea sound crazy Hilary" she said. She knew it was but that just meant it was fun.

"You know, a charm that would put a tent together would have been really useful right now," she said, frustrated by this point. On the plus side, though, it was starting to sort of look like a tent now.

"Bungee jumping was crazy," she said, with a laugh. "What part of throwing yourself off of the tower with only a big elastic attached to you sounds normal?"

"I was not in my right mind that day and you know it," Shelby said in self defense. It really hadn't been her fault that she'd done something so dangerous. Stupid sugar buzz from eating too many Chocolate Frogs.

"I just don't like camping," she explained. "Being outside in the daytime is fine, but being outside at night is just creepy. Sleeping outside is like you saying 'Hello, come eat me, I don't want to live anymore' to whatever animal is feeling hungry that day," she shook her head.

Theresa looked at Hilary like it was obvious "duh, it is normal in my books, you are talking to a girl who wants a chinese fireball named Shasta as a pet" she said, laughing slightly.
She turned to Shelby and smiled "we will be here so it wont be like you were on your own but of course if you are scared by it then stay here until you feel ready to go in, it will be fine" she said.
"I think we are starting to get somewhere" she said as she looked back at the tent.

"Oh, come on Shelby!" Hilary said, finally getting a pole into the right place. As long as they didn't mess it up from here, they might have the stupid tent up soon. "It'll be fun. And nothing is going to eat us. All the scary creatures stay in the forest, and the squid and octopus can't come and attack us out of the water. So what's there to worry about?"

Theresa grinned at Hilary "you would probably try and go into the lake, just to get their attention anyway" she teased. She smiled when she conected two more pipes, surpriced that it actually seemed to work. "This is actually cool, I cant wait to see the inside" she said as she looked back at the instructions in the book.

Hilary shook her head. "I'm not sharing my sleeping bag with either Hannibal or Christopher," she said, with a smile. "If you want them to come, you can share yours."

She fitted a few more pipes into place, and smiled again. There was still a couple of things left to hook together and put in place, but it actually looked like a real tent now. She couldn't wait to see what the inside looked like. It was a tent from a magical room after all.

Theresa pretended to scoff "no thanks, I like Christopher and Hannibal but I dont want to be sharing anything with them" she said as she walked to the other side of the tent. She picked up one of the poles and began to do the same she had done before. "So, talk to any of the new Professors yet?" she asked, wondering if anyone had, she had not seen any yet herself but was planning on introdusing herself later.

Shelby sat down on the grass to watch Resa and Hilary continue to set up the tent. Even though they seemed to have figured it out, for the most part, it was still quite entertaining. She absentmindedly wished that she had some popcorn and considered going to the kitchens to see if they would make her some.

"There's a note in the Charms corridor from Professor Malfoy saying that he'll be starting the next new lesson on Monday," she said. "I didn't actually see him, though."

"Not yet," she said, still playing with the poles of the tent. "I'm a bit concerned with Professor Ellis being our new head of house though. Especially since he's the only professor here who's caught me doing something I wasn't supposed to be. And I'm undecided if the new charms professor is sketchy or not."

Finally, the tent seemed to come together, and there were no more poles on the ground around them. She looked at the others with an expression of triumph. "It's up!"

"Well I need to make a good impression with the new Professors because Professor Ellis already probably got the wrong idea and thinks I am a trouble maker" Theresa said. She smiled when Hilary said it was done "great, now let's see what it looks like from the inside" she said excitedly.

Shelby shared Hilary's concern of having the professor with whom she'd gotten in trouble be their new Head of House. "I'm sure it will be fine. That's in the past now," she said, hoping that her words would turn out to be the truth.

She clapped when Hilary declared the tent finished, though she was laughing the whole time. "You'd better make sure that you got everything," she said, "Otherwise the tent might collapse on you while you're sleeping." She got up to have a look inside.

"I guess it doesn't really matter anyway," she said, moving to grab her bag and sleeping bag. "I figure Professor Williams was always suspicious of me since she listened in on our conversation about breaking into the dorms."

She tossed her gear into the tent. "It's not going to collapse," she said. "I'm ninety six percent sure that everything is in the right place. It'll be fine."

"Woah," she gasped, when she stepped inside. It wasn't exactly what she had imagined it would be.
