    Lesson Five Empty Lesson Five

Post by Guest Wed 11 Aug 2010, 16:14

    Back to Basics

Tristyn watched the students file into class. He hadn’t expected much so he was neither disappointed, nor satisfied – the best thing to be sometimes. He knew he would get to know each of them in time, some better than others.

Once everyone was seated in their desks, he turned to face them. A large map of the world hung behind his desk and served as his backdrop as he addressed the first years.

“My name is Tristyn Malfoy, you may address me as Professor Malfoy or Sir. And before you ask, yes, I am related to the infamous Draco Malfoy though I never did manage to gain as much popularity as he did – particularly in the female department,” he winked.

“Your former Professor left quite urgently but she was able to explain what you’ve covered so far. But our main concern now is with your exam. From what I understand, you lot have managed to complete the tasks given quite acceptably but what I want to know is, do you know what you were doing?”

He took a moment to gaze directly at the students, his pale grey eyes taking in their eager, inquisitive and even nervous faces.

“Something you should know about my teaching style,” he continued seriously. “I would not encourage you to memorize a bunch of facts and then regurgitate them in class. I expect youngsters to make use of the fine brains they possess by engaging in critical thinking and analytic evaluation. In other words, you don’t have to have read the entire Standard Book of Spells, you can theorize and offer your own ideas and opinions in class. That is what we will be doing today. Think of it as a mini test whereby I can see how good you are without a book or a wand.”

The blonde wizard flicked his wand at the map and the hanging piece shot up and rolled itself neatly at the top, revealing a simple chalkboard. A few more swished and questions appeared on the board.

    What is a Charm?

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?

What are some of the limitations of Charms?

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

“Please copy down these questions and answer them to the best of your ability. And try to show some originality seeing as I want your opinion, not Mrs. Gawshokes,” he smirked.

“The answers will be a total worth of ten points which you can earn easily if you put some thought into them. I will be awarding an additional point or two depending on how hard you worked and you creatively you tackled the questions. Cheating is, of course, not allowed though I doubt it will deter you so my only word of advice on that matter is not to get caught,” he said, thinking it was about time his Slytherin nature made an appearance.

“Good luck, ladies and gentleman, you may start now. Make sure your parchment has your name and house on it or your marks will be given to the house with the least points at the end of class.”

**all posts must meet the minimum word requirement of the site – fifty words
**respect your fellow students and their opinions
**raise your hand and state your name and house before asking a question as I don’t know you yet

Raven smiled up at his new Charms teacher a bit relieved. He liked this man, so far. He himself was blunt and appreciated it. Taking a piece of parchment out and a quill and his ink, he thought about it first. Nodding when he had come up with something, he began on the assignment. He decided to stick with what they had learned in class so far.

What is a Charm? A charm is a spell cast to enchant a person or object.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration? Transfiguration changes an object's mass and shape, while a charm cannot do that.

What are some of the limitations of Charms? Charms can be negated with proper knowledge and certain objects cannot be charmed.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
1: Spell- Alohomora. What it does- lets you picks locks magically and get into drawers you're not supposed to be in.
2: Spell- Accio. What it does - summons whatever you've called to come to you. Nifty spell that can be used to your advantage in a duel like when Will Accioed my cloak.
3: Spell- Rictusempra. What it does- a spell that afflicts whomever you cast the spell at to have involuntary laughter. Would be a good spell to use to cheer up an emo person.

Jasmeet smiled at the questions on the board. Taking out a quill from her bag, and some parchment, she placed them on her desk, before she started writing.

    What is a charm?
A charm is an enchantment that makes an object behaves in a certain way that is not normal for it.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?
When differentiating Charms from, like you said, Transfiguration, you would have to look at the fact that in Transfiguration, spells change the nature of the object but in Charms, it just makes it do something. That is the main difference between Charms and any other magical field.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?
    The spells are usually temporary.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
Cheering charm: makes a person happy
Confundus charm: a jinx that causes a person to become highle confused.
Freezing charm: stops things from moving.

Will leaned forward a bit, still upset that Professor Williams and Professor Hunt had left. Professor Williams was almost like a surrogate mother to him and Hunt was just crazy, but an effective teacher. He almost didn't make it to Charms because he didn't want the reality that she was really replaced to sink in.

The ever revolving gears in his head miraculously came to a stop as he looked at the questions. His mental peak seemed to diminish and he felt as if a dark cloud was over his head.

He blankly looked at the page and then at the new teacher. For once in his time at Hogwarts, he had no answers to give. He miserably stared at the still blank page for a good ten minutes.

    What is a charm?

"A rather improper name?" He said quietly with a dark air. Feeling a bit vindicated, he proceeded to write his answer.

An type of spell with a name that could speak the truth, or be oddly ironic. There are jinxes and curses that are considered charms and with such an innocent name, it makes one wonder.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?

Will tapped his quill for a moment, deciding on a textbook answer or his opinion. He decided on the latter. He was sick of reading off of a textbook.

Charms, like I stated above, can cheat you. It can be an sweet little enchantment that would make your friends laugh, or a nasty jinx that makes your enemies' eyeballs bleed. It's both light and dark. Transfiguration, however, is more generalized. You bluntly change an object into something else. That's as deep as you can get from it.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?

Running his hand through his hair in slight agitation of his strange state of mind, Will continued, his hand almost moving on it's own with his quill.

Some last long, some don't. Charms are terribly temperamental depending on the caster. If you don't have the mental capacity to summon a pencil from across the room, you suck at it. Big time. Which would suck if you went up against an enemy. You'd be laughed at before they kill you. That can be considered a slight limitation using charms.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

This was probably the easiest question.

Wingardium Leviosa Charm: Levitating. Used mostly by lazy people who can't pick up stuff themselves.
Alohomora Charm: Lock opener. Breaking into people's houses.
Accio Charm: Summoning. Also used by lazy people. Except it just zooms at you than just floating uselessly like the levitation charm.

    What is a Charm?

A charm is the ability to make a person or an object act in an unusual/unnatural manner. For example, making a pair of boots tap dance all around a room. Seeing as inanimate boots don’t do this on their own, they are charmed to do so.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?

Charming an object does not seek to alter its basic properties. Charms is different from other disciplines of magic mainly because it works as a modifier and retains the original properties of the subject. Potions for instants, strives to create new chemical compounds by altering the ingredients and producing new results. Though it could be argued that Cheering Charm and Cheering Potion work the same way, there are subtle differences in terms of cause and effect.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?

Certain Charms, like the Fidelius Charm, require a third party intervention which always has the possibility of backfiring as seen in the Case of Peter Petigrew.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

    • Silencing Charm – used to silence any sound emitting from a human, animal or machine
    • Tickling Charm – causes the subject to feel unbearable tickling
    • Shield Charm – Conjures a shield around the caster, quite useful in duels

    What is a Charm?
A charm is a spell that cause’s an object or person to act or behave in a certain way.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?

Thie difference between transfiguration and charms is that charms changes coulor, aperance and texture of an object to look like an other but on the inside it is still tha same. Transfiguration hanges the whole object. Charms are often more temprmental than other forms of magic as the can easily go wrong.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?

The spell is normally temporary and depending on the power of the caster the spell can either be more powerful than meant or not strong enough for it to work properly.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

Summoning charm (accio)- causes the object to fly toward you
    Unlocking charm (Alohamora)- unlocks object’s

Alex looked seriously annoyed, like the times that they had to do the damn hidden meaning behind those stupid poems and in some cases, it was exactly the same for her. In her English class, whenever she was asked a question, she just bluffed her way out of it, made up something and gave some logic behind it, Done! and here she would do the same.

    What is a Charm?

A charm is a spoken incantation that changes the environment around an object, making them behave in a manner unnatural to them.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?

Transfiguration changes the mass, color, appearance of one object. Charms can only make the object imitate the other object, Transfiguration changes the object.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?

The spells are not permanent and their duration or strength depends solely on the caster.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

Aguamenti Charm: makes a jet of water appear.

Not that in her eyes anyone could replace Professor Williams fully, Cass studied the teacher more than the blackboard. He seemed to study everyone back- although, she figured, he had a right to, being the new teacher and all- openly. He didn't worry about his heritage being a bad thing, and Cass was glad that nowadays people weren't worried who their parents were.
She looked at the blackboard for a good few minutes. Either way, whatever she was going to write was going to come out abysmally. Cass was literally at a loss for words.

    What is a Charm?
A Charm is a spell cast to make animate or inanimate objects (although its more common for inanimate objects to be cast upon). In some cases, Charms do things entirely different, creating Water in the 'Aguamenti' Charm from nothing, and the Stunning Charm. However, Charms are widely recognized as spells that render inanimate objects animate.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?
In Transfiguration, you are changing the mass, shape and basically the entire thing into something else, only the knowledge of it being something else if done perfectly. In Charms, spells that make things animated can easily be rendered back and in most cases, the Charms don't make any transformation whatsoever- say for the Flame Freezing Charm, apart from the flames not burning you, the flames are still recognized as flames.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?
The limitations come from the spell caster, really, just as every other spell is. It depends if your wand is your own/in good condition and also the frame of mind. The frame of mind is not so important in Charms as compared to Tranfiguration, where you have to scrutinize every detail of what you want to change and also what you want the object to change into. Charms also seem to cause much more damage when they go wrong, as compared to say a Hex, or Curse.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
    Stunning Charm- renders people unconcious.
    Freezing Charm- renders object immobile.
Fidleus Charm- harbour secret information hidden within a Secret-Keeper.

    What is a Charm?
-A spell that contains a function designed to either manipulate the laws of physics by enchanting objects to act in a different manner that isn't normal or distort the senses using magic to alter an object's superficial traits.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?
-In Transfiguration, the magic is changing the object's overall details and metaphysical essence into something else entirely. In Charms, the magic functions on just changing the object's appearance into something else, giving it an outer illusion.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?
-The limitations come from the caster and his or her ability to concentrate the intent and magic in getting a spell to achieve the desired function. A majority of them are also temporary in their effects unless additional magic is expended to prolong their duration.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

Tristyn looked up from the few papers that had been handed in. His quick eyes and sharp quill had already marked the tests and he was ready to hand them back.

“When I call out your name, please come here and collect your paper,” he said clearly and flicked his blonde hair out of his eye. He really needed a haircut.

“Mr. Drake, well done for the most part though you’d do well to remember that most spells, charms and curses can be negated if one possesses proper knowledge on them. 9 points to Slytherin.”

“Ms. Kaur, here’s your paper. My advice is to you is to do some research into Everlasting Charms, 7 points to Gryffindor.”

“Good effort Mr. Black, was this class something akin to poetry or theater, I would have given you full marks plus credit. Sadly, we’re in Charms and I cannot award you more than 6 points. Perhaps you should see Professor Green and subject yourself to some Cheering Potion?”

“Ms. Quill, needlessly elaborate but I suppose it drives the nail in the wall quite well. 10 points for your effort.”

“Ms. Forester, please join Ms. Kaur in her search. 7 points to Hufflepuff.”

“Nicely done, Ms. Black but I must ask you to accompany Ms. Kaur and Ms Forester in their endeavors to learn about charms that aren’t so temporary. 7 points to you for your effort.”

“Not the most eloquent paper I’ve read but you get the point across well, Ms. Marling. Take 10 points for Ravenclaw.”

“Well done, Mr. Lamperouge, that’s 10 points you’ve earned your house.”

Having finished rattling of their grades, the wizard now turned his attention to a bit of parchment. Taking up a quill, he started doodling absently – or at least that’s what it appeared to be – as he waited for the rest of them to finish.

Alexandra watched the new teacher with interest, having just finished listening to his words. He seemed quite different from Professor Williams. Picking up her quill and parchment, Alex dipped it into her ink and hesitated for a moment before beginning to scrawl down her answers.

What is a Charm? A charm is a spell that manipulates an object, person, or animal into doing something abnormal for it, or to give it special characteristics also not normal for it.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration? In Transfiguration, the object, person, or animal being transformed [i]changes[/i. This is the fundamental difference. A charm doesn't actually change the thing being charmed, and it still has the same chemical nature.

What are some of the limitations of Charms? They are most likely only temporary, considering the fact that the chemical nature of the object is still the same and the charm will eventually wear off. Another disadvantage of Charms is that a lot(not all) of them won't be very helpful to you in real life or a duel. Like making a piece of cheese dance around a room. Cute, but no practical purpose.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
Engorgement Charm: Makes object grow larger in size
    Patronus Charm: Fends off dementors
Tickling Charm: Makes a person start laughing beyond control.

Hilary pulled a blank sheet of parchment and a quill out of her bag. She wasn't too pleased to see Professor Williams gone, from both charms and from their house. And she wasn't so sure just yet about this new professor.

But this wasn't a time to really dwell on what they no longer had, or what they did have now, so she began to work on the assigned questions.

    Hilary Ayres
    Ravenclaw

    What is a Charm?
A charm is a type of magical used to manipulate objects or the environment around an object, causing them to act in a manner than isn't natural to themselves, or appear differently from what it would have originally.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?
A charm, unlike a transfiguration spell, does not effect the chemistry of an object. In transfiguration, you are changing the molecular makeup of the object. A charmed object may look like it has become something else, but the makeup of the object is still true to the original.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?
The major limitations in charms come from the abilities, strength and state of mind of the castor. Other limitations, such as duration, would come from the specific charm that the castor is performing.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
-Alohomora: opens locks, for example, on a door.
-Accio: Summoning charm. Causes the enchanted object to move towards you.
-Lumos: creates a light at the end of your wand.

Cat leaned back in her chair thoughtfully. She had been rather upset to hear the news about Prof. Williams leaving- she had enjoyed her methods and personality- but that was no reason to immediately discount anything new.

Positive, positive, positive. She chanted in her head. At the end of his lecture she gave a bemused smile, this teacher had his own sense of, rather wry, humour that she enjoyed. And he was getting a scope on everything. Sensible.

The voice in her head that unfailingly managed to sound like Paul hooted- what did dhe know about sensible or teaching?! She was an eleven year old!

She shook her head and turned her attention to the questions, her mind ticking over.

    "Catherine Black, Ravenclaw.

    "What is a Charm?

"A charm is a specific type of spell that indirectly affects objects.

"What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?

"Charms indirectly affects objects by manipulating their actions or the environment around them. Other magic- to take Transfiguration for example- directly change objects to suit the purpose needed. Say, for instance, you wanted an object to fly, you could charm it and levitate the object, or you could transfigure it and change it into something tht is capable of flying.

"What are some of the limitations of Charms?

"Charms cannot change an object directly. They can change the way that it acts or exists, but thet cannot change the nature of an object. A charmed book, will still be a book, while a book transfigured into a rock (though why one would do this is questionable) is no longer a book, but actually a rock. Rocks could be used for cracking coconuts (again, the reasoning behind this example is questionable, but I persist), but I would be more worried about the state of the book if I began to hit a coconut with it.

"List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

"Rictumsempra (The laughing or tickling charm)- This charm causes the receiver to be over come with laughter.
"Accio (The summoning charm)- A charm to summon objects to the caster.
"Wingardium leviosa (The levitation charm)- As said in your example, causes objects to float or fly."

Cat looked over her work critically. Her list of charms could probably use a bit of fleshing out, and she wasn't entirely sure of her answer on the limitations of charms, but she had answered to the best of her ability- and that was what counted.

No matter how pedantic she might be.

What is a Charm? A Charm is a spell that takes and object and makes it do something it would not normally do. Example: Accio: it makes and object at rest move to ther person who summoned it. It would not move unless the spell was used or someone picked it up.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration? Charms doens't change the actual object itself. All is does is make the object do something that wouldn't normally do.

What are some of the limitations of Charms? The limitations of Charms is that is cannot change an object into something else. It can only make an object do something. Charms can make a person dance but it cannot turn a matchstick into a needle.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
    Accio: It summons an Object.
Bubblehead Charm: it encloses the head of the caster with a bubble of breathable air.
Braking Charm: it is used on a broomstick to allow it to stop effectively.

What in the world did she have to be nervous about, the test was simple, nothing she hadn't studied before. She cleared her mind and dipped her quill.

Lauren heard that there was a new Charms professor replacing Professor Williams. She would miss the cheerful Ravenclaw Head of House, even with her warped punishment routine.

Lauren listened carefully to what Professor Malfoy was saying and was slightly scared of his direct approach to the subject, but liked him anyway.

Lauren took out her quill and wrote down the questions, hoping that she would be able to answer them well enough and not look like a complete dim-wit in front of her classmates.

    Lauren Potter
    Gryffindor
    1st Year

    What is a Charm?

A charm is a magical enchantment that when placed upon an object or living being enables it to behave in a manner that is wished of the caster, and is often not considered "normal" for that object. For example, making a spider tapdance, or using accio charm to create an inanimate object more to you.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration

Charms differs from transfiguration due to the fact that the object/being in question does not change their physical make up, or matter, but in stead their behaviour changes, or the way they move. Transfiguration often involves changing the matter of an object, changing the appearance for example. Charms often wear off in time, unlike a transfigured object, which should stay the same after the incantation has been performed.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?

As stated above, some charms need constant application to be cast upon someone and wear off over time, were as other forms of magic need but one incantation for a permanent application.

Charms also cannot change an object/being into something that it is not, as with transfiguration, which could be considered a limitation.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

    - Confundus Charm ~ A jinx that causes the affected person or animated object to become highly confused.

    - Memory Charm (Oblivate; as apposed to the charm that is used to create false memories) ~ A charm used to erase some or all memories from an individual's mind.

    - Scouring Charm ~ A charm often used in wizarding households to clean an object. Used for teaching children not to swear also. I heard it's very effective!

The quill felt comforting in his hand. Here, in class, Dimitri had something to focus on. There were no new people to meet, nor expectations, and most importantly, no real reminders that he had left his old life behind. All he had to do was throw himself into his work.

What is a charm? In the simplest way of looking at it, a charm is a verb of the magic world. It is a spell that causes a 'doing' action, in a targeted individual or object.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration? As stated, charms are spells of action. Transfiguration deals with objects and their transition, making them the proper nouns of the magic world. Among wizarding subjects, Charms are the only ones to deal directly with actions.

What are some of the limitations of Charms? The main limitation of Charms are duration. Charms are usually limited in their effects, and although this can be countered with serious skill and effort, it is one of the main hinderances. Another is lack of utility. Most charms serve only a single, defined purpose, with very few multi-purpose charms existing. This leads to wizards needing to lean a huge base of charms to meet their requirements in all applications.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
    1. Orchideous: Produces flowers from the tip of the wand.
    2. Incendio: Produces flame.
    3. Tarantallegra: Causes uncontrollable dancing.

Dimitri grinned as he looked down at his paper. He was not certain that the professor would like his comparison of spells to components of grammar, but surely by using the most exotic spells he could remember seeing his father use in a duel at Durmstrang, he could earn a few points.

Dixie pursed her mouth, nibbling a bit on her sugar quill, willing an idea to come to her as she studied her blank piece of parchment. Looking around and seeing everyone slready scribbling on their paper, she pushed her glasses up her nose and sighed. She may as well start now, before class ended.

    What is a Charm?
A charm is a spell, cast on a person, animal, or object, that causes the 'subject' to behave or look, differently, in a way that is unnatural, or strange. For example, levitating a feather.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?
Well, when you charm an object, person, animal, etc., then the effect of the spell lasts only so long. Another limitation is the fact that when you charm a flower, for example, into a bush, then the object only appears to be a bush, but is still, a flower.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
    1) Aguamenti-causes water to burst, trickle, burst, from wand, depending on the strength of the spell.
    2) Accio- Summons objects.
    3) Engorgio- Enlarges objects.

Harmony tapped her quill on her nose while she thought about the assignment. She knew the tapping was an annoying habit she had, but she couldn't bear to break away from it. She put the quill to the parchment and began to write.

    What is a charm?

A charm is spell or enchantment that is cast on an object or a person, allowing it to change behaviors or looks, in a different way than it normally would.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?

Charms are often used for temporary situations and though you can change the look of things, it doesn't change the actual object like Transfiguration does.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?

Some of the spells are temporary and usually an extremely talented and/or strong caster's spells work longer and better than most others.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

-Alohamora, the unlocking charm: Often used for unlocking doors, but can be used to unlock other things as well.
-Accio, the summoning charm: Used to bring things flying toward you. Sometimes used after an
expelliarmus, to grab the other users wand.
-Rictumsempra, the tickling charm: Can be used for fun and/or enjoyment when in need of tickling friends or family. Can also be used to distract an opponent if need be.

Alycia picked up her quill and quickly wrote the questions down on a piece of parchment.

    What is a Charm?
A Charm is a spell that can manipulate a person or object.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?
A Charm doesn't change the object it self, it just makes you see something instead or feel something different. Say you're charming an apple to look like an orange, its still and orange on the inside it just looks like an apple.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?
Charms can't make an object what its not.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.

Fidelius Charm - A charm that with hold secret information that is only located in a secret keeper.
Colour-Change Charm - Changes the color of an object.
Bubble-Head Charm - Creates a bubble around the persons head.

“My, my, don’t I have prolific students in my class,” the man commented dryly after finishing with the latest stack of papers. “I must have counted at least five Blacks, and four of them in Ravenclaw too.”

Shifting his attention back to the papers, he repeated the same procedure, calling them out by name and giving them their grades as well as his comments.

“Unnamed witch – I would say it’s a witch by the color of the ink, well done though maybe you’d like to check your quill? It didn’t italicize the word “change” as you would have liked it to. That’s 10 points you’ve contributed to whichever house has the least points at the end of this class.”

“Ms. Ayres, isn’t it possible that any spell cast depends on the “abilities, strength and state of mind of the castor”? 7 points for your efforts.”

“Ms. Black, may I suggest you work on your definition of a charm a little more. And I would have personally liked to see how you would manipulate the environment around an object to charm it. 7 points.”

“Yet another nameless student, short and to the point though a little more elaboration on “doing something” would have been nice. 8 points to whichever house finishes last.”

“Ms. Cotgrave, are you suggesting that a charm cannot change an object’s appearance or texture? If you are, I’d like to hear the reasoning behind it. 7 points to Hufflepuff.”

“Ms… Nox, simply done but well done, take ten points for Ravenclaw.”

“Ms. Potter, good work, 9 points. It would have been a full ten if your quill hadn’t been so temperamental. I suggest you get it checked or order a new one.”

“Another unnamed student – a male by the looks of the writing has earned 10 points for whichever house has the least at the end of class. Good mentions of charm examples.”

“Another nameless student – didn’t I make myself clear that you were to write your name and house on the paper? This student only managed to complete three questions but he or she did win five marks for some lucky house.”

“Ms. Lupin, good work but please join the other three witches in researching Everlasting Charms, it might do you good. 7 points for Ravenclaw.”

“Nameless student, you have earned 7 points for your short but accurate summarization for a yet unknown house.”

Having recited the grades a second time, Tristyn handed back the papers he could, keeping the ones with no names off to one side. He knew there would be protests but this was the best way to learn to follow instructions.

Mary looked up as the professor spoke. She wasn't done with her homework yet and she hoped she could still give it in. She liked the new Charms teacher, he seemed rather nice.
In a green ink, she wrote.

    Mary McNeely, Slytherin.
    What is a Charm?
A charm is a spell that one uses when one wants to do magic, particularly levitating or making your opponent giggle or something.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration?
In Transfiguration, one completely changes the object, in Charms, the object only takes a shape of another object, it doesn't change texture.

What are some of the limitations of Charms?
Well, the object you want to Charm won't become another object and also, the Charm doesn't last forever.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly.
Accio, the Summoning charm-you summon thing to you, but you have to be specific about what object you want
    Alohomora-unlocks doors
    Engorgio-makes object bigger

Yuki took her seat and listened to the teacher. Where was their charms professor? She definately didn't want to be taught by a Slytherin related to a Malfoy even though they were related because of her Aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange. It's not her fault that she was related to a Death Eater. She took notes regardless of what the professor said every little note counts and helps and its better to be safe than sorry.

What is a Charm? It is a spell that affects the object you are poining to.

What differentiates Charms from other magical fields, like say Transfiguration? Charms make the object do things while Transfiguration changes thee object into something.

What are some of the limitations of Charms? It can't change something into anoither object but can make it do things or change its size.

List three examples of charms and what they accomplish e.g. levitation charm, enables objects to fly. Summoning charm: summons the object you want, Rictusempra: makes the opponent laugh helplessly, and the unlocking charm: opens locks.

Naty looked up from her parchment the moment prof. Malfoy started telling out loud the grades *what?!* she thought with alarm written all over her face. She had finished the assignment yet as she had to think really hard on some of the questions.
She finished adding some things and stood up to turn her work in, hoping it wasn`t too late.

    CHARMS LESSON 5
    NAME: Naty Valencia.
    HOUSE: Gryffindor.

    1. WHAT IS A CHARM?
Answer: A charm is an incantation that allows the caster, to do unnatural things with the spell-receiver, be it a living thing, such as humans or animals, or an inanimate object.

    2. WHAT DIFFERENTIATES CHARMS FROM OTHER MAGICAL FIELDS, LIKE SAY TRANSFIGURATION?
Answer: the charm doesn`t alter the physical form of the object, while with transfiguration you do alter the form (mass, weight etc) of the object.
Also a charm is the basic form of the spells, what I mean is that charms can be either used as spells or jinxes.

    3. WHAT ARE SOME LIMITATIONS OF CHARMS?
Answer: A charm depends entirely on many facts that can make it go wrong, for example, how powerful the caster is, and the concentration at the moment, and how much energy is put onto it, or if the receiver knows how to deflect it.

    4. LIST THREE EXAMPLES OF CHARMS AND WHAT THEY ACCOMPLISH E.G. LEVITATION CHARM, ENABLES OBJECTS TO FLY.
    Answer:
    - Alohomora: is an unlocking charm, it allows you open things that are closed and locked.
    - Accio: is a summoning charm, it allows you to summon things from a distance
    - Rictusempra: is a tickling charm, makes the spell receiver to burst into fits of laughter.
