As Cass pondered the tagline, Cass saw Jas swoop past. Not quite sure what she was doing, Cass yelled her over, waving empathically for her to come.
dont come over you dont please i dont want to tell you then youll look at me with THAT face as if to say dont tell me

    She took a deep breath.
fine come over i want you to come over now im ready to tell you im ready your ready we are ready come over please

This felt like the right time to tell her.

"Jasmeet, I haven't been entirely honest with you..."

"Jasmeet, I haven't been entirely honest with you..."

Cass had called to the Lake, she had said that it was something important, and hearing those words, Jasmeet knew that there was something that the Ravenclaw had been hiding from her. But she didn't want to push it, if Cass wanted to tell her, she would listen - but she would wait.

She didn't need to take a deep breath. She'd been holding that breath since, like, forever. So she exhaled, letting the moment last.
"Did I tell you why I was in the Whomping Willow at all?"

Cassopeia felt it was time to stop facing the lake now, and turned to face Jasmeet, she offered a hand.

"And, tell me, Jasmeet. What have I told you about my brother?"

Jasmeet looked at her best friend, she was worried about the girl. She hoped that Cass hadn't hit her head somewhere, she was acting strange.

"Did I tell you why I was in the Whomping Willow at all?"

Jasmeet thought and thought, hoping that she had a answer to the question, but none came to mind, and she shook her head.

"And, tell me, Jasmeet. What have I told you about my brother?"

She was shocked when she had heard the word 'brother'. Cass had never mentioned anything about siblings let alone a brother. She was dying to know what was going on.

"You didnt tell me anything about your brother, Cass," she said.

Against herself, Cass couldn't do anything but gape openmouthed. She hadn't said anything? This was so unlike her. Cass was one for dropping hints, or at least a name. But nothing?
"I just think that to know all the good things about me, you should see the bad ones too."
    She took a deep breath.

    She was ready.

"Cass, you're scaring me, tell me what's wrong," she said, fear building in her heart. She couldn't see her friend like this, it was like she was forcing herself.

"You don’t have to tell me yet, I'll wait. Whenever you're ready Cass, I'm all ears," she actually did mean it. She didn't want to put her friend through any pain.

Cass laughed not unkindly. "It's not a big deal anymore, I've come to realise that. People have their little fragments of sadness. But I'm just... I dunno, angry with myself for not telling you anything? You don't even know I have a brother!" She slammed fist down into her palm. "And I shouldn't be forgetting him."

She closed her small eyes and looked back at Jas. The calm before the storm, maybe? "I should probably start off with Bradley."

Jasmeet gasped when she saw her friend's anger, "Cass, calm down. I understand that you didn't tell me. You're telling my now, it doesn't matter," but when she heard Bradley she froze.

Wait, Cass was talking about her brother and then about her frog. Was there a link between the two?

    It was drama time.
"Alex, my Aunt and I went to a circus. The Great Margerini's opening act was dancing frogs, only they were dancing under the Imperius. So after that act was finished I snuck backstage and got the cage opened. I got one frog, and before I could do anything else, I heard someone behind me, so I hid. But it was my brother, he'd come to look where I'd got to. He saw something shiny on the Margerini's dressing table, and then the next second him and the thing had gone. It was a portkey.
We didn't see him for months. We thought he was dead. And he was, kinda. He was vacant and quiet, and then the next minute he was taunting and violent.
This was so detatched from the Alex I'd grown up with. We shared our bedroom, and in the night, he'd let his head dangle from the bunkbed and tell me how he was going to scare me to death. I eventually told Mum and Dad and they took him to St. Mungos. It was so weird for one second, almost as if I'd made the last few months up, because he was talking all normally to me, telling me about the acrobatics he saw at the circus he wanted to see me do, and then he slapped me- completely back to his new scary self- and then I had to go. In the morning he'd left without a trace and two healers were dead.

So," Cass said, taking in a breath. "I was in the forest one day, and something kept picking Bradley up and dropping him, or moving him completely. That was what Alex did to taunt me. I took Indiana in the forest again, and then we went to the lake, and the thing was still there. We went to the Whomping Willow- because I said I'd sleep there in case Alex would try to breach the castle to get to me- and the same things happened- my wand disappeared upstairs and the stairs all were completely demolished. But then we heard laughter. And it was Peeves,"

Cass brought her cuff to her eyes and dabbed at them. "So now I don't know where he is. It's been a year. And I know he's a killer- please don't think of my brother as just a killer, he was so much more, he probably didn't even know what he was doing- but I'd rather see him come for me than be out there, attacking someone, not knowing where he is.

    That's it. I think."

She let out a breath. Jas had to know this.

Jasmeet was stunned, and she didn't say anything. She walked towards the girl, gathering her into ther arms, and hugging her. She wanted Cass to know that she would be there for her, forever.

"Shh, Cass. It's alright ok? I'm not going to think anything of your brother. I actually don't know what to say, but I'm here for you Cass, always will be. Perhaps, one day your brother would come back home, perhaps, one day you will get your brother back, and whenever that happens, I will be here for you".

All Cass could do was smile.

Fireworks in her mind erupted as she realised that Jas hadn't let go of her yet- she hadn't seen her as sibling to a murderer. That was her deep fear, of people looking down of her, and more so on him. But Cass was one for having things out in the open.

"All I can do is say thank you and hug you back," said Cass, equally stunned.

Jasmeet smiled at the girl, "Cass I could never think of you as bad. I can't live without you, you've grown on me, and not being friends with you would kill me," she said, knowing that this was Cass' fear.

"I'm here for you, alright?" she looked at the girl, and then she realised that she still hadn’t let her go, and pulled back, hoping she hadn’t squeezed all the air from her.

Cass let out a muggle 'lol'. She couldn't help it.
"Lol, Jas, I've 'grown' on you. You could say that, you know being best friends and all," she sniffed, "you can stop hugging me now. I think I might sneeze all over you. The dive's got my senses messed up."

She offered Jas a high five, happy it was over.

Jasmeet smiled and high-fived Cass, "Now that you put it that way Cass, it just sounds weird, and why didn't you call me? I would have loved a dive into the lake, something that would have refreshed me. I need to escape for a bit" and then she remembered something, "Oh Cass, so that frog you saw in the circus... that was Bradley?"

"What, about the dive?" she said thickly as she used her tissue again, "Theresa Cotgrave from Hufflepuff arranged it- it was to analyse the damage done by external influences in the Black Lake- environmental hazards and injured creatures. There's a petition you can sign near the lake somewhere."

Cass nodded eagerly, "that was ol' Bradders. That's where he got all of his dancing skills. Later on he's promised me to do a little dance for Goodlove in my house. It's on my list of things to do, after all. Come if you like."

She raised her brow, "And get House Points taken off? No thanks, I just got my punishment done and have one pending, I'd rather not,” and then she remembered the good news, “Oh and did you see? We got chosen for the Quidditch team! And we're on the same team!"

"Why would you get in trouble for seeing Bradley dance near the lake?" asked Cass quizzically.

"But yeah, I saw! How cool is that? If we had Sam on our team as something it'd be perfect! Keeper. Wow. If I make keeper for Ravenclaw I'm going to die with happiness. That would be amazing. Infact, I need to bump that up on my priorities list."
