    Secluded Trees Empty Secluded Trees

Post by Guest Mon 16 Aug 2010, 03:04

It was dawn the next day after last night's tension-filled events at the Whomping Willow. Indiana wondered on whether Professor Malfoy had caused that ruckus in the Shrieking Shack to drive him, Cassopeia, and Jasmeet out from within the tree's entrance to the hidden cave.

"JUST WHAT IS THE DEAL OF THE WHOMPING WILLOW BEING OFF-LIMITS?!!! IF THE TREE BEATS UP ANY STUDENT, SURELY THAT SHOULD SUFFICE FOR ITS ROLE AS A RIGHTFUL ARBITER!" the youth yelled out. Since he was in a silent grove near the lake, only the birds took flight from his outburst. Yelling, however, helped relieve the tension in his head as he was now calm. His foot made contact and Indiana looked to see a long tree branch on the ground that resembled a long stick with barely any branches extending from it.

Picking up the tree branch, he began swinging it around like a sword through the air.

Shelby was out for a walk when she heard someone shouting about the Whomping Willow. Curious, she searched for the yeller until she came upon a small grove and saw Indiana swinging a branch like a sword.

She approached him quietly and selected a spot on the ground. She pulled her cloak off and made her usual blanket on the grass out of it and sat, continuing to watch Indiana silently.

After what seemed to be about several minutes of swinging the tree branch around the empty air, Indiana slowly came to a stop before falling to his knees on the grass in exhaustion. The cool breeze flew through the grove and past him, soothing his mind while feeling the intense anger dissipating away. Taking a deep breath and feeling calmer now, Indiana felt a pair of eyes before turning to see Shelby sitting on the grass.

    "Um...Hi, Shelby." Indiana greeted.

"Hi. I heard you shouting about the Whomping Willow and came to investigate," Shelby replied softly, willing herself not to laugh at how silly he'd looked while sword-fighting an invisible opponent.

He looked a far deal calmer, so something he had done made him feel at least a little better about whatever had been bothering him, though Shelby didn't know if it was the shout or swinging a branch that was more effective. "Did it make you feel better?" she asked in the same quiet tone.

Indiana took a deep breath and nodded softly. At the same time, he was surprised that Shelby had heard his apparent yelling and had been drawn the grove where he was releasing his pent-up frustration. Having expended his energy, Indiana felt tired but more pacified by the physical recreation, which somehow calmed his nerves.

"I feel more calmer now." Indiana replied, breathing heavily while letting go of the tree branch. "I didn't I would attract attention since I didn't see anyone when I came out here."

"I was out for a walk when I heard you. All I heard was something about the Whomping Willow and I wondered who it was. I'm afraid I let my curiosity get the better of me," Shelby explained. She was starting to get the feeling that Indiana didn't want her there. "I can go if you want me to. I didn't mean to intrude or anything."

"It's alright." Indiana replied in an assuring tone. "I was just thinking about what happened during the middle of the night and the aftermath was a bit too bitter to handle. Especially when Professor Malfoy decides to appear out of nowhere as though stalking students without being detected is his specialty."

The youth spoke the last sentence with a bit of malice in his voice. "Overall, I had a bad night."

Shelby was surprised to hear the harsh tone of Indiana's voice. "What happened?" she asked, feeling very concerned that the new Charms professor had obviously done something terrible to Indiana in order to evoke such a strong reaction. She didn't like it when people were mean to her friends, and she'd never seen Indiana look quite so upset.

"Last night, Cassopeia and I were checking out the cavern that links the Whomping Willow to the Shrieking Shack. Jasmeet joined us later and we made a small camp in the cavern." Indiana explained.

"It was during the middle of the night that we encountered Peeves and some hours later, heard what sounded like a fight in the Shrieking Shack. All of us left the cavern through the Whomping Willow and got caught. Ten points docked each from the three of us and a detention for just being near the Whomping Willow, although I have yet to find out what it is."

Taking a deep breath, Indiana added. "IT could've just been only the points being docked but a detention is excessive in my opinion."

"Although I agree that a detention may be excessive, I'm sure that you can handle whatever he makes you do," Shelby said comfortingly. "Just think, it could have been worse. You could have lost fifty points each and had a weeks worth of detentions."

She was unsure of how to snap him out of his bad mood. "We could go ask Elise to run him over," she suggested in a falsely cheery voice.

Indiana actually laughed at the idea before replying. "Would be entertaining but it's too messy and too much evidence left behind. As much as I despise Malfoy, I'm not willing to go to Azkaban. Still, one can dream, right?"

Taking a deep breath, the youth thought about the Principle Matter regarding the Whomping Willow. If there wasn't a rule in regards to the tree, then he and the others couldn't be punished for it. Even if it had been made on the spot, the disciplinary measures can only come AFTER the fact.

"Anyways, how did your day go yesterday?"

Shelby was relieved to hear Indiana laugh. The moment the words left her mouth, she was worried that he might actually take her seriously. "Ah yes, dreams of cupcakes, rainbows, unicorns, and a flattened professor," she laughed.

"Yesterday was... interesting." Shelby couldn't think of a better word to describe it, and chose to move on to the positive side of things. "Elise will have a tiara in no time," she replied happily.

"Indeed. We just need to see what sketch that Elise wants painted onto her hood." Indiana replied before looking at the trees.

"I have to seriously consider learning a bit on healing magic later on." the youth remarked, intending to have the necessary means in mending his own injuries. "Perhaps then, I'll cure this compulsion to explore unknown areas."

Shelby thought of the second design Indiana had done. It had been her favorite option by far, though it did have one major flaw, and she had a feeling that Elise would like that one the best. "You have to paint the tiara in silver, no matter which design she chooses," she said.

"No, you can't get rid of that compulsion. It's part of what makes you you," Shelby said, hoping that he'd never lose his adventurous streak. "Did the Whomping Willow hurt you?"

"Paint the Roman tiara silver? Hmm... I can do that along with the others." Indiana replied.

"True but I'll fix and modify it enough so that I can explore places without getting in trouble." the youth remarked before placing a hand to the side of his head. "The Whomping Willow hit the side of my head very hard last night. Luckily, a kitchen elf healed the injury so that I didn't have to go to the Hospital Wing. Gotta love elven magic."

"Good, because gold would clash terribly with her other paint, and I simply don't trust Elise enough to know that," Shelby replied.

She was shocked to hear that the tree had actually hurt him, thus ignored his comment about the house elf. "It hit you and Professor Malfoy still gave you a detention? He should have taken you to the Hospital Wing straight away! What kind of terrible person is he to leave a student to suffer?"

"The type that sees children as mindless sheep that that need to be hit with bricks to instill disciplinary actions. Don't worry, I was expecting to be denied medical treatment anyways and it gives me a good reason not to intervene if he happens to get the short end of the stick." Indiana replied. "What goes around comes around."

Hearing some twigs snapping, the youth whipped around in the direction of the sounds with his wand drawn.

When she heard the twigs snap, Shelby jumped to her feet and quickly turned to face the same direction as Indiana, taking out her wand as she moved. Her eyes scanned the area, but saw nothing out of place. "Hello? Is anyone there?" she called tentatively in the direction the sound had come from.

Indiana looked around before seeing a slight rippling movement at approximately twelve meters away that he narrowed his eyes, recognizing the telltale signature of a Disillusionment Charm. At the same time, he computed and guessed at least three active additional enchantments on the potential eavesdropping presence: Silencing Charm on the feet, active Shield Charm on one wand for defense, and a Memory Charm that was ready to be cast from another wand.

"Protego." Indiana chanted, casting a Shield Charm just in case. "Shelby, I think we should head back to the castle."

Shelby's eyes swept the area again, though she still saw nothing. "I think that's probably a good idea," she whispered back. She was sure that she had heard something but was terrified at not knowing what or who it was.

She grabbed her stuff to head back to the safety of the castle.
