    Dance Steps

Post by Guest on Tue 24 Aug 2010, 07:35

Cat stepped into the room feeling smug. Alex hadn't stood a chance. "Rotten egg!" she yelled airily over her shoulder, dropping her bag at the edge of the room.

It was a ballroom. Lots of mirrors. Cat swallowed nervously; she'd never liked mirrors. She shook her head and turned her attention to the old gramophone in the corner. It was fascinating. She'd never seen one before in her life. She placed the needle on the record and jumped when an old waltz came out of it loudly.

There was a small stack of records next to the music player and Cat looked through them, fascinated. Old jive, original rumbas, early cha cha music. It had everything they needed.

Alex came in the room easily, she had not even bothered to run.

"What the-?" she said as she eyed the number of mirrors. "MIRRORS????? Why? I mean what is the ballroom set up for? Wooooow! But the s gramo is cool!" Alex said as she dropped her bag and advanced up to the gramophone, eying it carefully and almost pulling it apart.

Cat sniggered. "The ballroom set up is for ball room dancing nitwit." she said teasingly. Her eye twitched a little as Alex went for the gramophone. "Please be careful." she begged; gramophones were rare, pretty, old and extremely valuable.

    "Now, shall we dance?"

Alex barely heard what cat sad, she was busy poking the old gramophone. It really was fascinating. Not in the beautiful antique sort of was but in the way that what people used before the invention of stereos and iPods.

Noticing the halt in speech, she nodded her head. "Wait! What?"

Cat laughed again. "Dance, you know, what we're here for? Pick some music!" she said, grinning broadly. They had come to dance, and so now they were going to dance. That was rather the point of their being there.

Alex sighed as she glanced at the stack of records kept next to the old gramophone.

After a few minutes of browsing, she shrugged as she grimaced, "I do not recognize a single one of these! And I doubt ballroom dancing can be managed on Green day or Boys Like Girls."

Cat laughed. "Not traditional ballroom, but you could probably manage a half-decent jive." She walked over to the records and began to flip through them with a critical eye, trying to remember titles from her dad's collection. Or even her aunt's.

"Here we go!" she said, pulling out one labeled Rick Astley. "I've heard this one SO many times it isn't funny." It was a single, called Never Gonna Give You Up. Her dad and brothers had always groaned whenever they heard it for some reason, but she liked it.

Alex quirked her eyebrow as she read the name of the record.

"Why are we doing ballroom? Why not something a little more upbeat? You know that my...klutziness does not go in well with ballroom dances? Or any dance for that matter?" she added thoughtfully.

    "I do not like mirrors!"

Cat shrugged, looked around and the walls shimmered, becoming the regular stone of the castle with blue and yellow hangings. She made a face, reminded instantly of the football team she loved to hate.

"We don't have to do ballroom." she said with a shrug, "It's just the one type I'm familiar with that's all." she paused. "I think I know a bit of hip-hop..." she said, diving into the box again.

"Well then we will do that! I mean, you will do that, while I......see you, observe you then try it out?" Alex suggested innocently already making her way to lean on one of the walls.

"Go, go ahead! I will see you!"

Cat snorted with laughter. "Ri-i-ight. Observe. Uh-huh." she grinned, amused and pulled out a record that looked suspiciously modern. She turned to Alex, grinning. "I think the Room has a sense of humour - I'm pretty sure Greenday's CD generation." she said, slipping it onto the gramophone, fumbling a little as she tried to get the needle on right.

Alex grinned as she went up to Cat and helped her set the needle right. Her grin widened when 'I Fought the Law' came up.

'I like this room." shes aid, patting the wall affectionately. "It is so awesome! And really up to the requirement!"

"Get ready girl! The stage is yours!" she said with an elaborate gesture towards the center of the room and a smirk.

Cat laughed as an actual stage rose up in the centre of the room and she jumped on to it, grinning broadly. She began to stamp her left foot to the beat of the drum, suddenly feeling very self-conscious. The beat sped up and so did she, beginning to move her torso and arms. 'Isolation' whispered Rory's voice in her head, the giggle behind it very clear.

Alex smirked as she saw the stage appear in the center, from literally, nothing. It was after a moment that Cat started moving and Alex at once saw that she was a really good dancer. It was almost like a spotlight on her, and as if the room figured out, the whole area went dark, only lighting up Cat.

I love this room! Alex thought as she allowed her body to move in with the beats, taking advantage of the darkness.

Cat blinked as the light hit her, feeling even more awkward. She allowed herself to spin around, trying to remember the movements that were starting to come more easily. She wasn't a good dancer, but she was better at it than tumbling, and she wasn't bad at tumbling.

"Alex, get up here!" she yelled.

Alex yelped as she thought of a way to get out of this one. But she was defeated and she knew it.

Sighing, she walked up on the stage and felt a bit of her confidence return back to her. There was nothing to trip on or knock don, and only Cat was here.

"Play the same song, I like it."

Cat jumped down and raced over to the gramophone, resettling the needle to where it had been. The music started again and she jumped back up onto the stage starting to move with the upbeat music. She began to clap her hands together, lightly bouncing on the balls of her feet, grinning broadly at Alex.

Alex smiled as Cat bounced back up on stage. Sighing, she listened to the music and forced her body to move in time to the beat. It was not good enough for her. It did not seem natural and she was taking lots of care not to crash. But then, after a while she just let herself loose.

    Go with the flow!

Cat grinned as Alex lost herself to the music and did so as well. It was so much better not to care, and, when push came to shove, Alex was quite a good dancer. Cat looked at her and lightly jumped down from the stage, hoping she wouldn't notice, leaning back to watch her friend enjoy herself. Sometimes it was good to loose yourself.

Alex felt awesome! there was no other way to express it. Slowly, she had felt herself come loose and had even managed to sing along a bit. When she opened her eyes, the room was light up once again and Cat was not on stage.

"You care so much about your well being that you left in the middle huh?" Alex asked as she bounced down, giving a knowing smirk to Cat.

Cat grinned back. "Of course." she said, gently teasing. "I already did it once by myself." she turned back to the gramophone. "What music next?" she called back over her shoulder. They should probably look at specific steps, seeing that was what the Prof. had suggested, but this way was a lot more fun.

'I dunno! I am fine with any!" Alex said, trying to fit in all of the steps that Cat and her had been doing. Most of her steps involved a lot of jumping around and were not that hard to remember, but Cat's steps were more......elaborate.

Cat shrugged, closed her eyes and put her hand into the box. The first record she pulled out was one called I Will Survive. She made a face and put it back. The next record she pulled out was an early Beatles one, and the song Love Me Do began playing almost in the same instant the needle landed on the disc.

She leapt up on the stage once more and sung along for the first part, trying to figure out how to dance to it.

Alex just paused for a moment, she had never heard this song, but then seeing Cat dance, rather, try to dance on the song, she shrugged an relaxed. Dancing is okay! I guess! She thought as did a little spin, ending up next to Cat! " next song please!!!!!!!!"

Cat stopped stock still and stared at Alex, jaw hanging open. "You've never heard this song?" she asked, incredulous. The Beatles were old, but they were essential to all lives. Essential. She looked over at her. "Right, next song." she skipped the needle and Paperback Writer came on.

(OOC: Please tell me that's part of Alex Black's character? Please?)
